Gods now. People then.

Daniela Audetto was the manager of Reparto Corse Lancia at the time. Sandro Munari won the World Rally Championship several times on Lancia. The first time on a Lancia Fulvia Rallye 1.6HF, nicknamed Fanalone, as shown in the photo.
The Fanalone in the photo was restored to perfection by Casa Lancia. The engine was completely overhauled and fitted with forged pistons. Some of the threads in the cylinder head were damaged. This indicated that the wrong bolts had been used previously and installed incorrectly. The bolts holding the camshaft bearings differ subtly in length. Getting it wrong causes a lot of damage.
We also overhauled the piggyback gearbox. That's always a complicated puzzle.
The upper control arm bushings had been replaced with conversion kits that are available on the market. However, the dimensions were incorrect, resulting in dangerous steering characteristics. Fortunately, Huib stayed alert enough when attending enough lectures in mathematics, physics, and mechanical engineering to calculate the correct dimensions.
The ball joints had been incorrectly lubricated and therefore had play. The canvas Hardy disk between the steering column and steering box was almost torn. I could go on and on. Of course, everything turned out fine.

Gianni Tonti and Huib Geurink. Gianni is leaning on Huib's Rallye 1.3 (Tina). Gianni was the technical director of Reparto Corse Lancia.
Both photos were taken in April 2016 in the garden of Villa Barbaro in Maser.
They are the gods of that time. Gianni and Huib are still actively involved with Lancia.
